The Seniors Assisting in Geriatric Education (SAGE) Program is an innovative, instructional method that was implemented at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) and Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM). The current SAGE Program is offered in collaboration with Texas Christian University (TCU) and the UNTHSC Office of Interprofessional Education.

The SAGE Program consists of an educational curriculum and community based outreach experience aimed at increasing student opportunity for early exposure to older adults and issues in geriatrics. The program strives to create meaningful relationships with an interprofessional health profession team of students with the goal of gaining knowledge about the needs of today's senior population while guiding the next generation of healthcare professions. The education component involves health care profession students interacting with each other and their senior mentors through structured assignments delivered in the home environment. Position Details

The Geriatrics Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire an Education Coordinator to join our SAGE team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Plans, organizes and implements activities related to SAGE senior mentor volunteer recruitment, orientation, and engagement, including attending recruitment events.
  • Verifying current status and availability to participate.
  • General correspondence in person or by phone, mail and email.
  • Maintaining updated records on all senior mentor volunteers.
  • Securing partnerships to develop volunteer recruitment base.
  • Evaluating and reporting activities.
  • Track, manage and report information for pairing, tracking and recruiting SAGE senior mentors with multiple schools and disciplines.
  • Assists with planning, preparing, scheduling and implementing SAGE course delivery, including uploading and maintaining SAGE courses on Canvas learning management system, and other education programs.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of marketing and communications for SAGE and other education programs for a broad audience, including students, volunteers, community partners, faculty and researchers.
  • Conduct general administrative duties related to education and research programs and events.
  • Attend staff training and meetings are requested.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
