Current Need

Instructional Designer

Position Description

The Instructional Designer will use multimedia technology and authoring tools to design and develop instructional materials. These materials will facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner.

Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs

  • Develop objectives and ensure content matches those objectives

  • Revise and rewrite content to shape it for learning needs

  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer

  • Create material/media to support learning (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.)

  • Determine the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments

  • Adapt instructional materials created for one format (e.g., instructor led) to other formats such as e-learning

  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts

  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods

  • Present information using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos and lectures.

  • Present/Train/Facilitate instructional techniques in a classroom setting.

Minimum Requirements

6 years technical training, field sales, product support, and/or consulting experience

Critical Skills

  • Excellent project management skills:They can work with multiple stakeholders all wanting to achieve own agenda.

  • Demonstrate above average interpersonal skills:. Designers must have an incredible level of comfort when it comes to being around people, especially when it comes to speaking one-on-one with Subject Matter Experts.

  • A good researcher: Conduct thorough research, boast good analytical skills and the ability to synthesize information from various sources.

  • Understands adult learning – ADDIE model; knows that practice is important, get learners to talk/do/present

  • Collaborative and flexible: Approach to design as they won’t get to perform all steps in analysis, etc. An inflexible designer may not fit.

  • Present/Train/Facilitate instructional techniques in a classroom setting .

Additional Knowledge and Skills

In-depth knowledge of technical training.

Education

BA or BS degree or equivalent experience.
